On Friday, March 31, 2008, I had a guest commentary on the subject of the exit from I-15 to eastbound to I-84 published in the Standard-Examiner. That commentary was instigated after two truckloads of apples rolled over on the bridge. Now there has been at least three additional accidents. The design of the interchange does not meet the U.S. Government Bureau of Public Roads standard that states the interstate was to be designed for 70 miles per hour, except in the mountains where 55 mph could be used. In my mind, the I-84 exit does not meet that criteria.

As a medical transcriptionist, I transcribe dictated letters almost daily by physicians to their patients' insurance carriers who are refusing to pay for medical testing, hospitalizations and much needed medications. As a result, many of these patients are losing their life savings and homes to pay for their medical expenses; this, after their insurance premiums have increased substantially over the past few years.

This isn't an issue to continue putting off for a decade or even another year. A federal study indicates health care spending rose an estimated $2.5 trillion in 2009, or $8,047 per person. That figure is projected to nearly double by 2019. Our elected officials must act now. They must forget about Republican and Democrat forums and act on what is best for "We the People", not for their party or special interest groups.
